About the designer

Hi, its nice to meet you! My name is Mary Catherine Rice and I am the owner and lead designer here at Soul Sugar Designs. My Husband and I live in the North Georgia Mountains with our dog Scout. We both grew up in this area and hope to always call it home.

Interior Design was not always a passion of mine. I actually stumbled across it in college. After years in school trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up, I was sick of working towards goals that I didn't care about or love. So, one day I decided to go to design school and the rest is history. I fell in love with design from the first day of school and I've never looked back. My husband and I were married in 2019 and two years later we started Soul Sugar. It is my goal as a designer to never impose my own style or aesthetic on anyone. My job is to discover my client's desires and help bring that to life. I am so grateful that The Lord blessed me with this business and everyday it is my mission to give it back to Him by honoring Him through my work.

Our Story

Soul Sugar became a dream of mine in college. I knew I wanted to own my own business and I knew that I was a creative person, but it took years for me to figure out that interior design was my outlet. I decided to enroll in design school and I immediately knew this was my passion. Through lots of hard work and dedication, as well as strong support from my husband Isaac Rice and my sidekick Scout, Soul Sugar Designs was born!

On June 19th of 2021 we kicked off the start of our brand new design business and started to see growth just within a couple of months. As the beginning stages of Soul Sugar Designs started to unfold, we decided to make it our goal to bring forth more than just our design capabilities.

I remember being a sophomore in college long before I was in design school. I was sitting in my apartment all by myself and I heard The Lord whisper "Soul Sugar". It wasn't until months later when I found out what those words actually meant. God showed me Proverbs 16:24 and it all came together. This was my ministry. To give "soul sugar" to others. Soul healing kindness that would bring forth life.

We wanted our business to bring joy and satisfaction to our clients, while showing them love and kindness through our smiling faces and uplifting words each day. That's why we decided to make our motto Proverbs 16:24,

"Kind words are like honey-sweet to the soul and healthy for the body".

Bringing this motto into our business from the very beginning has helped us to remember why we started it in the first place. While executing a design that tailors to your own style is a big focus for us, we strive just as hard to achieve it with our love and kind nature being shown. We hope in working with us that you receive the design of your dreams, while seeing God's kindness throughout the process!

The Soul Sugar Design Process

Step 1:

To start off, we will schedule a consultation to better get an idea of what exactly you are wanting. Think of this as a blueprint step; you tell us what you want, we give our advice and then we lay it all out. This part of the process not only gives us a starting point, but helps us get to know you and your style better!

Step 2:

After this step is complete, then we can begin with the actual designing process. We gather your design along with its details and present it in a presentation with mood boards, space planning, and samples so you can start to envision the end results. This is the time to add or take away  any aspects in the design you want to change. Once we settle on the final design you love, we move on to the next phase.

Step 4:

Once all the products have arrived then the fun part can begin...putting the pieces together to reveal your new space is always a favorite of ours. Creating spaces you love to live in is our number one goal here at Soul Sugar Designs. Being able to capture sweet moments of our clients in awe of their new space is why we do what we do!

Step 3:

Once the given designs are approved, then we can begin ordering the products and your contractor can begin construction. Now online ordering isn't everyones favorite thing to do, we get that, that's why we offer you the option to order the products yourself or leave it up to us! Designing and renovating spaces can be stressful enough as it is, that's why we are here to take off the extra stress by ordering your products for you if that be your choice.
